So, let’s talk about her, the dreaded “elephant in the room”.  According to the Cambridge dictionary an elephant in the room refers to a sensitive problem or a delicate issue that is obviously present but avoided as a subject of discussion because it is much more comfortable to do so.  Oh wow, that sounds fancy, doesn’t it?

For so long, we as women have kept quiet, for so long we made a deliberate decision not to talk about “her”.  If we don’t talk about “her”, “she” doesn’t exist. Even if it means we are constantly aware of “her” presence.

We fight battles that should have been conquered a long time back, if only we talked about it.  If only we acted.  Up until the day we stop ignoring “her” and start talking about “her” “she” will always be bigger than us.

We will always operate in her shadow.

“She” will always be the “elephant in the room.”

For some of us “she” might refer to a feeling of unworthiness, a struggle to control our eating habits, a negative thought or behavior.  For some a bad habit, self-esteem or a lack of discipline.   For some it’s the destructive or degrading things we say about ourselves and for others the lack of self-control, obesity or an eating disorder.

Time after time, over and over, we keep on facing “her”. A constant battle.  Time and time again we will disappoint ourselves and time and time again “she” will triumph over us and push us down, until we decide to stand up, to fight, to make a conscious decision to talk about “her”, to face “her”, to overcome “her”.

Stand up and face “her”, overcome whatever “she” is that you are struggling with.  Talk about her and be the woman someone can feel bold enough to talk to.

Be a conqueror, worthy and strong.  Be the woman that faces and talks about your weaknesses, be vulnerable.

But also, be the woman who someone can trust enough to talk to.

Let’s acknowledge and embrace our battles, triumph over them and rise victoriously.

Together, as women.
