Do you remember playing hide and seek as a child. I remember how badly I wanted to just run to the den, not be seen, and shout BLOCK, ONE, TWO THREE. Its always been that excitement, the thrill and the anxiety building up not to get caught.
But it was also more than that, it was the feeling of an anxious enjoyment coming to an end (victoriously) but on your own terms.

I find myself repeatedly as an adult wanting to run to a den and just shout BLOCK, ONE TWO THREE.
But life doesn't work that way, and even if it feels like a game sometimes, I promise you, it's not. You can't stop it on your terms, and you have no say in whether you get caught or not. Life has so much to offer and when it's good, it's really good but when it's shitty, man it can get really shitty.
It's much like hide and seek, you don't always choose the stage or the environment and not even all the players are people that you know or even want to play the game with. You are never the fastest nor the slowest and sometimes you are just the one that gets caught, no matter how good you think your hiding spot was. The flip side to this can also be that you don't get caught. Initially it's what you want but then after a while, when it gets quiet and it feels like nobody is searching anymore, you kind of get lonely. It's like you're not part of the game anymore, and nobody misses you. You hear everyone's laughter, everyone having fun and chatting about where the last hider can be, you feel like a champion but at the same time excluded. But the game forces you to choose, do you sit and wait a bit longer or do you grab the opportunity, run as fast as you can and try to reach the den before the seeker sees you. Can you trust the fellow players to keep quiet and have your back, can you trust them to support you and cheer for you or will you do this in solitude. Are some wins better celebrated in solitude? Or is sharing the wins, and the losses what life is all about? It that part of the game and what makes the game the game? Is that what makes it worth your while?
Is the game of life about the uncertainty, the spontaneous decisions to play a game with strangers that end up being either your greatest cheerleaders or your biggest rivals. Is the game of life about embracing and enjoying all the wins and losses or is it about getting comfortable in the quiet lonely spots where life sometimes forces you into. Is it about getting out of those quiet lonely spots at the right time or sitting a little bit longer and observing what ever the lessons are that it has to teach you.
But who knows, maybe just maybe the game of life its about embracing the individuals that we share the game with.
